SIA Product Achievement Award MONITORING
Experts agree that the most effective method for the launch
of new products and services in the security industry is the
Security Industry Association's (SIA) New Product Showcase
(NPS). Every firm that enters the program receives tremendous
value and industry exposure for their participation in this
marketing program. During the ISC EXPO/Las Vegas 2003 the
NPS program recognized those products in the program that
stood out from the rest in the NPS Award's Ceremony. The ceremony
was held at the Sands Convention Center on March 27, 2003.
These awards are significant because each company had to compete
against 74 program entrants, an unprecedented number of competetors.

The NPS judging
took place on Wednesday, March 26th at the Sands Convention
Center. Fifteen judges, representing various segments of the
industry, took careful notes and asked many questions during
the presentations by manufacturers who detailed their product's
unique and innovative qualities.
SIA's
Executive Director Richard Chace opened the awards ceremony
by lauding the security product manufacturing industry for
making the selection process so difficult by continuing
to produce such excellent and innovative products. SIA President
Allen Fritts was on hand to emcee the awards presentation,
along with NPS Chair Sandra Jones.
The
Security Industry Association's New Product Showcase (NPS)
is an internationally recognized promotion and awards program, which
is held twice each year at the ISC Expo events. Designers and manufacturers
of electronic security products, peripherals and services are invited
to submit their newest products and services for this industry-wide,
nationally recognized competition.
NPS
Judges represent a carefully selected cross section of the security
industry, and
are primarily drawn from three (3) end-user categories: Dealers,
Specifiers and Practitioners. This cross-section of judges represents
a balance of big, little, commercial/residential and practitioner
business interests.
SIA contacts local chapters of national organizations such as
American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), the National
Burglar and Fire alarm Association (NBFAA), Central Station and
Alarm Association (CSAA) and the International Association of
Professional Security Consultants (IAPSC) and sends out a call
for Judges.
To
be considered for a Judge's seat on the NPS panel the applicant
must meet the following criteria:
Must have at least 10 years of active experience in the security
field as a Dealer, Specifier or Practitioner and currently be
responsible for the specification or purchasing of security
products.
Must
disclose any manufacturer affiliations prior to assuming any
active judging role.
Must
be able to spare the time to carefully and thoughtfully review
the submission materials, attend the on-site judging and awards
ceremony.
Must
be able to volunteer time and travel, as there is no stipend
involved in participation.
All
NPS judges names and participation are kept confidential
until show time, as to avoid any panel tampering or solicitation
by program participants.
